Chhaya in search of a job fails to get any work & situation worsens when her mother-in-law is taken away by her brother Kalicharan ( C. Prakash falls prey to the goons on a dark evening in a narrow lane & dies. When Daulatram finds the Mill workers unmanageable at the Mill gate, calls Police for protection & on the other hand pays money to his goons to finish Prakash. However, Daulatram quickly approaches court & brings a Stay Order.
All the labours under the leadership of Prakash decides to go on hunger strike & wins by interception by Government to run the Mill. During negotiations Shyam, who becomes the Manager slaps Prakash, but matter is halted by Police intervention. One day, Daulatram inaugurates a modern machine in the Mill & declares sacking of 400 Mill workers out of 1500 on strength to which Prakash opposes. Prakash and Chhaya continue their stay happily in the cottage and gradually become parents of three kids.
Prakash enlightens both & then Puran joins the Mill as a worker. Puran ( Mehmood) & Churan ( Aruna Irani) are roadside lifters. Though hesitant initially, the poor mother welcomes both under such critical condition. Then Prakash offers Chhaya his cottage as shelter & requests her to stay with him & his old & poor mother Gomti ( Shammi). A request to Shyam to have a shelter in his home also receives a rejection from him on some reasons asking her to forget friendships of college days. Initially Chhaya seeks shelter to Vimla, which receives a regret by her on the grounds of her father Kundanlal. Homeless Satyanarayan unable to sustain the shock dies of heart attack leaving Chhaya his alone in the world. An heated argument between them results in break up of the partnership however as a revenge of argument Daulatram deceives Satyanarayan cunningly with the help of Kundanlal & grabs all of his property in addition. The pass-on request of Satyanarayan, as partner to Daulatram falls on his deaf ear and finally a refusal to the proposal by Daulatram, who intends a huge profit & asks to ignore the demand of workers which is indigestible to Satyanarayan. One day, a young Mill-worker Prakash ( Parikshit Sahni), along with few of his labour union colleagues of the Mill reaches Satyanarayan, requesting timely payment of Bonus prior to Diwali. Vimla ( Kanchana) is the daughter of Kundanlal ( Kanhaiyalal) who is the Private Advocate on the company. Chhaya is in friendship with Shyam ( Prem Chopra), her college fellow. When asked by the Judge for any final representation, the women narrates why & what made her commit the heinous crime.Ĭhhaya ( Sharada) is the only daughter of Satyanarayan ( Nazir Hussain) who is a partner of a Mill with Daulatram ( Pran). The film starts with a court scene in which a woman is held for a heinous crime, prosecuted by a female public prosecutor & recommended for a death penalty to the Court.
